Sociolinguist Cecilia Cutler introduced the preview showing of a segment of the upcoming (January 2005) PBS series Do You Speak American by Robert MacNeil. Ms. Cutler's segment of the program described a pattern in predominantly suburban male teenagers to adopt a version of urban gangster-speak. Here she is seen with a copy of the forthcoming series companion book. ESU members who order the book before its December publishing date will receive a copy autographed by Mr. MacNeil.
