Charleston, South Carolina Branch of the English-Speaking Union
The English-Speaking Union of the United States is a non-profit, non-political organization that promotes educational, cultural and social activities within the Charleston area.
The Charleston Branch was established in the early l930s and is one of 70 branches in the United States and 50 international branches. Members are a cross-section of people who are either native to or have adopted Charleston as their home.
Our monthly meetings feature local, national and international speakers from a variety of fields. Their lively and informative talks are held at the historic Washington Light Infantry Armory, preceded by a social hour with a buffet and libations for members and guests. In addition to these meetings we have an annual Christmas Party, a Black Tie dinner at the Carolina Yacht Club and a traditional English Garden Party held at one of Charleston's historic district mansions.
There are many volunteer opportunities available for members, Membership in the Charleston branch includes membership in the National organization and an opportunity to enjoy varied social and educational events. You are cordially invited to join us. Please complete the Membership Application and send it to the address on the form. Photos from the Charleston ESU Spring Garden Party 2011 |
