This course is for international medical graduates (IMG) living
in the United States who were practicing physicians in their native
countries and have already passed their medical exams in the United
States.
The course will help IMGs expand their English medical vocabulary,
learn basic medical interviewing methods and American hospital
operating
procedures.
Sessions, conducted
by American physicians, are based on discussions and role-playing
to develop colloquial language skills
and cultural understanding in a medical context. This course helps participants prepare for residencies in American
hospitals by focusing on aspects of protocol such as initial meeting
of patients, follow-up notes, case presentations on rounds, pronunciation
of medical terms, and residency interviewing skills. It also provides
the opportunity to improve language skills for the Clinical Skills
Assessment Exam (CSA).
Note: this course is not intended to augment medical teaching.
