ENGLISH IN ACTION
FAQ from Students about English in Action
Who can register for EiA?
Students must have a basic understanding of English and be able to read and write in English, in order to register for EiA.
How often does EiA meet?
Students meet with their tutors once a week for one or two hours. The annual registration for the program is good for ten months of EiA, with a break during the summer. There is an optional summer program for registered students.
When and where does EiA meet?
EiA conversation practice sessions meet in the morning and afternoon Monday through Thursday, and on Friday mornings. Evening classes are held on Wednesday. There are no classes on Saturday or Sunday. All EiA sessions meet at locations in Manhattan.
How much does it cost?
There is an annual registration fee of $325.00; the weekly sessions are free. Students cannot be matched with tutors until they have paid the registration fee.
Do I need to buy any books for EiA?
This program focuses on improving speaking and listening skills, and is tailored to meet the needs of individual students. It is not a formal class. Although there are no required textbooks, we do have a library with ESL texts available for use by students and volunteers. We also encourage students to bring any materials that may be of particular interest to them to EiA for discussion.
How soon can I start EiA?
After a student registers, we begin looking for a tutor immediately. There may be a short wait, but once a student is placed in EiA, he or she is guaranteed a tutor.
When can I register?
New students can register for EiA at any time of the year. Our registration hours are by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Evening appointments are available on Wednesdays for those who must register after regular work hours.
How do I register?
